The art, science, and practice of creating pictures by recording radiation on a radiation-sensitive medium.

To capture the world perfectly frozen, reliving or telling a story from a single image.

And that’s the end of the chapter. NYC 2011. 4 days that changed my life. It inspired me, left me in awe, and had me wanting more. Im dying to go back as quick as I can, and do it all once again.

“One belongs to New York instantly. One belongs to it as much in five minutes as in five years”

Finally reaching Liberty Island we got to see the famous landmark in person. Every bit as big as I thought it would be, we had a really great time here. The shots are great, but the memories that you can’t see were better.

On the ferry to Liberty Island, where the wind was so harsh that it whipped your face and you could barely open your eyes, we went past this practically perfect view. Manhattan and the skyline in its glory. The sun shining beautifully, with a brilliant blue sky as a backdrop. What more could you want. (Apart from a hot drink when it was freezing cold)

And so we made it. To the top of the Rock. And as I reached the top of the escalator I was greeted with this view. It blew my mind. I couldn’t comprehend what I was looking at, and where I was. I was in NYC, on top of the Rockefeller looking down on the whole of Manhattan. It was a dream come true, and I can hand on heart say, it was the specific moment in time, I fell in love with New York. I decided there and then, for some part of my life, I’ll return and actually live in New York for a bit.

So instead of going to the top of the Empire State which so many people do, we decided to go to the top of the Rock, (Rockefeller Center). This way we could get a view of the Empire State from where we were. But the Rock in itself was huge. It dwarfed you and you felt like nothing in comparison. And it doesn’t stop there… When you get to the top there’s a whole lot more.

Ladies and Gentlemen… Times Square. The moment I had been waiting for ever since we arrived. And it was every bit as big and spectacular as I thought. The people, the buildings, the adverts. Everything was perfect. We even checked in on facebook that we were “Casually Sitting In Times Square”.

As if anyone needs to be told about shopping in NYC. You name the brand and it’s there. Even though we didn’t get to shop around, seeing all the flagship stores was amazing. Tommy Hilfiger with the bow, has to be the best looking, but brand wise, Louis Vuitton is a league of its own.

“The suspense is terrible. I hope it’ll last.”
Constantly being teased by our tour guide, he would drive by times square, but not actually take us in. The tension was building, and this was my first glimpse of it. I fell a little bit more in love with New York every time I saw something that took my breath away. View high resolution

Our tour guide then took us to Grand Central Station Terminal. Most tourists know it as a station, but as we were told, and as the door says, it’s actually a terminal. I think this is because services start and end here. This isn’t a stop, but the actual destination.

The next photo is of the beautiful ceiling in the terminal. I’ve completely forgot the story behind it, but it looks lovely anyway.

And finally, the old man shaking my teachers hand. The old man was asking us if one of the girls on the trip was Mary Poppins, and our teacher told him that she was and explained that he was her father. Best moment to watch.

Need I say anything for this photo? It was my first glimpse of the Empire State building. I think the word I’m looking for is “Speachless.” Just seeing what can only be described as the ultimate symbol for New York, was amazing. Standing in it’s presence, I was once again just reminded of where I was, and what was surrounding me. View high resolution

I don’t even know if this was an actual police car or not. If it actually is, then I’m baffled. They must have had some major cuts in the police department.  View high resolution

Brooklyn Bridge is one of New York’s most famous landmarks, along with everything else the city has to offer. It’s just so big, and looks amazing when you can get it all into one frame.

Why “J” or “Jay” walking is illegal in the States, I’ll never know. Why it’s called “J”/”Jay” I’ll never know either. But what I do know, is that this guy was about to attempt it. Brave man. View high resolution

Yellow Cabs. A never ending sea of yellow cars that would rush by you. It was something quite amazing.
Oh and is that a saucy little snap of the Victoria’s Secret store? View high resolution

When I’m at home, I’m not massively patriotic. However, I think a lot of people will agree with me here, when I go abroad, the slightest mention of England and I’m shouting about it, singing the national anthem as loud as I can, telling everyone in a 50 meter radius that I’m from England. And I go even further if Nottingham is mentioned. Nottingham is home. Nothing beats it. So when I saw The Beatles on a huge billboard, you know I sang as many Beatles songs as possible.  View high resolution
